Technology Overview

Coolcentric'sTM green data center cooling and its patented LiquiCool® Rear Door Heat Exchangers (RDHx) are based on a unique approach to data center cooling that is highly efficient, effective and sustainable. Known as an integrated cooling environment, this architecture is based on the premise that cooling should take place at the source of the heat and that little or no heat should be released into the data center. Instead of cooling the data center, Coolcentric’s approach is to cool the equipment in the rack, which is significantly more efficient than typical computer room air conditioner unit room cooling.

Integrated Cooling Environment (ICE)

The LiquiCool RDHx has won several awards for representing a green approach to high efficiency cooling. In a recent "Chill-Off" competition sponsored by the Silicon Valley Leadership Group, Coolcentric's LiquiCool products were rated the most efficient family of data center cooling solutions on the market today.

Coolcentric's LiquiCool achieves its remarkably efficient cooling capabilities by implementing the following key attributes:

Passive – the architecture uses cooled water instead of cooled air to remove the heat generated by IT equipment. Water is, on average, 3400 times more efficient than air in removing heat. Coolcentric harnesses the power of water cooling by circulating it through a Rear Door Heat Exchanger (RDHx) attached to the back of the IT rack. There are no fans, electrical connection or moving parts in the RDHx, reducing the energy load needed for cooling, minimizing the points of failure and generating no additional noise.
Localized - the architecture is designed to cool equipment at its source rather than in the general room environment. Cooling at the source prevents any heat from being released into the data center and is much more efficient than moving air around a data center. Less white space and less energy are needed to cool the equipment. In fact, by localizing the cooling, much less cooling is necessary and the cooling.
Scalable – Coolcentric can be used to cool a single rack or as the basis of the design for an entire data center. It enables up to five times more compute power to be placed in a given rack, and frees up white space. In addition, it can be implemented in a "cold aisle to cold aisle" configuration for even greater efficiency and scalabiity.
Open Platform - Coolcentric's architecture is open. Its family of LiquiCool Rear Door Heat Exchangers are available for the majority of industry-standard rack in a variety of widths and heights. Custom racks are not required. And existing racks can be retrofitted with Coolcentric's RDHx even while operating.
